Founded in 2011 by Weslyn “Mahogany” Bowers, Blessings in a Book Bag is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Savannah, Georgia dedicated to supporting children and families in need.
What began as a heartfelt response to weekend hunger has grown into an organization committed to ensuring that students have reliable access to food and essential resources — so they can focus on learning, thriving, and enjoying their childhood.

Meet Our Founder
Weslyn “Mahogany” Bowers is a Savannah native, community leader, advocate, speaker, and founder of Blessings in a Book Bag. With a background in hospitality, marketing, and community engagement, Mahogany turned her passion for service into a mission-driven nonprofit that has supported countless families in Savannah and beyond.
Her journey from regional brand ambassador and TEDx speaker to nonprofit founder reflects a lifelong commitment to uplifting her community and creating opportunities for children who need it most.
